There are many books, trainers, magazines and instructional videos that can provide tips on how an increase muscle mass can be achieved. However, some end up following the wrong technique.

According to some experts it is best to incorporate advice on intensity, pumping, motion, intake of calories and recuperation into the training program. The five factors mentioned will help the person gain his desired increase in muscle mass if followed diligently. Based on studies, little effort resulted in little growth, so intensity helps increase a muscle. This does not mean that a person needs to work on heavy weights in order to increase muscle mass. Intense means working on heavy weights and can help strengthen the build. It can really help in building muscle but doing this exclusively may slow down the progress.

There is a better way to determine power other than just working on weights. Calculating how much work a person is doing within a particular period can help. Work is measured by how heavy a person lifts and the number of times he lifts it. The intensity or power of the work is calculated using the time as the unit of measurement.

Exercise's main goal is the pump for the purpose of building muscle. There is no scientific study that undeveloped muscle when pumped will help it grow, but it does based on experiences. Timing is needed in order to achieve the pump. It is important that blood has to move out slower in the vessel and flow in faster. A person cannot slow down and start doing something during the activity of doing a pump. To achieve a pump the work should be done with maximum power. When a muscle cannot pump anymore then it is best to stop exercising the muscle. Over exercising can deflate a pump quicker.

It is very effective to increase intensity by partial motion movements. If a person exercises with full motion movements, the intensity of the exercise is determined by the weakest part of the muscle and the exercise would receive maximum benefit before the strongest part. In building muscle, protein is important. It is important that the calorie intake is greater than the calorie output. A balanced diet will help in achieving the desired increase muscle mass. The food intake should provide more calories than the usual calorie intake level. The required protein in building more muscle will be completed in the amount of food, as long as the diet is properly balanced. The body needs to have at least 15% of calories coming from the protein to grow muscle.

Recuperation is the ability of the body to produce new tissue out of those calories. The discarded old tissue is replaced by the body everyday. Instead of breaking down of muscle through exercises and other activity, growth has to continue working at a faster rate. Resting and eating is not enough to replace the muscle mass. If a person is serious in obtaining the desired muscle it is best not to repeat the workout routine until a person has at least ¼ - ½ pound heavier.
