Pressure Points are a Universal Weakness
It doesn’t matter who you are. You could be a 280 pound linebacker. You could be a 90 pound preteen. Knowing how to strike pressure points gives you an immediate advantage over any opponent. The 90 pound preteen could take down the 280 pound linebacker with this knowledge.
What are pressure points? Typically speaking, they are nerve clusters or large blood vessels located at various points on the body. Whenever focused pressure or force is placed on them, it means extreme pain and temporary paralysis.
Have you ever hit your funny bone on something? Chances are, you have, and you didn’t think it was very funny at the time. Remember the feeling of “pins and needles?” You probably are wincing even at the memory. This is an example of how pressure points work.
In fact, the effectiveness of striking pressure points has added to the legend of the Dim Mak, or death touch. You may have seen an example of this in Kill Bill, where the Bride kills Bill by using the “Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique.” While there is no actual evidence of a working Dim Mak technique, certainly not one that would be practical in battle, the effectiveness of using pressure points is illustrated by this legend.
Another legend involving the Death Touch is the death of Bruce Lee. Many people have speculated that his death was the result of a delayed action Dim Mak technique used by one of his opponents.
Many acupuncturists would go on to say that any attack on a pressure point will have eventual dire consequences on the victim. They cite something about the disruption of chi at that pressure point. One of the primary animal forms of Kung Fu, the Snake, has an extensive focus on pressure point attacks.
Ultimately, attacking pressure points wouldn’t have this kind of reputation if it didn’t enable the couch potato to take down a seasoned veteran.
