I bought this to replace human resources management omrion bought last year here at Amazon. This watch, when all the bells and whistles I wanted to continue my fitness that monitors and general. Good product...
Far better value than Polar's, the strap monitor is comfortable and the watch itself looks nice, very accurate readings also. The watch has a lot of features that I do not use, but it's nice to have them if later on you want to use them.
Definitively recommended.
What a wonderful piece of equipment
I purchased this item about one week after I got out of the hospital due to severe health issues. It was recommended by my doctor that I get such a device. After researching the many different types of products on the market with all of their "bells and whistles", I came to the deduction that this model would suit me just fine.
This particular model has many different modes in which you can set to your particular needs. The buttons and display are large and easily accessable. I have set it to my needs and it has just been a joy to work with. First with anything that you buy I must recommend that you read and understand the instruction book fullly. Doing this will greatly improve the use of this product for you, rather than it just being a glorified watch.
Some people who have purchased this product have apparently had problems with the device not picking up the signal from the transmitter. I would wonder if they read the directions fully for one and two this possible problem is easily fixed with putting a bit of moisture on the transmitter before wearing it so that it can more easily read your heart rate and send it to the watch. Initially I had one instance with this, but to date have yet to have another. As with any electronic device it will fail at some point, this is a given. Timex has been building a great product for years and has changed with the times to offer products that do more than just tell time.
I paid about $120 and for the price it is a great value. I would recommend this product to anyone who would need/want it. Thank you.
Great training aid
I've been using this watch for about 3 weeks now. I use it for cycling and running. It is easy to read, and easy to operate. If you already have any of the Timex Ironman watches, using this will be intuitive for you. It basically works like and has the same features as my normal Ironman watch, just a slightly different button configuration to accommodate the heart rate features. I especially enjoy being able to see at a glance how hard I am training by my heart rate. Just since starting to use this, and for no other reason, I have shaved 2 minutes off my 2 mile run. I found that I wasn't working as hard as I thought I was, and knowing my heart rate helped me push myself a little harder. The strap is comfortable. Although it took me about 10 minutes the first time I used it to learn to place the strap correctly, since then I get it right the first time every time. I found that following the suggestion in the directions to wet the area you are placing it helped me get a signal much easier. I have also downloaded the training software from the Timex web site. It is great software, even the free version. I plan on ordering the data exchanger soon so that I can download the info from my watch straight to the computer instead of manually entering it as I am now. By the way, I am using a Mac and the software works fine on it. I also like that it is web based so that I can log on at work and show off to my buddies my improved lap times!
Excellent Heart Rate Monitor!
4-30-2010 Update: Had an issue with irregular heart rate readings after six weeks of use. Called the Timex support center and reached a very nice woman. She suggested replacing the battery in the chest strap since there's no way to know how long the unit I purchased had been sitting on the shelf. Even offered to send a new chest strap if the battery replacement didn't fix the issue. Fortunately, it did.
The more I use this, the better I like it.
I used Polar F6 heart rate monitors for four years. The Timex IronMan Race Trainer is superior in several ways. It has more features. It is more comfortable to wear. And most importantly, the heart rate readings are much more accurate and consistent.
Takes a little time to set it up and learn how to use it - and it's worth it. The print in the manual that comes with the product is small, so I recommend downloading and printing the manual from the Timex website.
All in all, this is an excellent product and a good value.
