What Natural Remedies Can Cure Depression?
I was so depressed… I want to share a little from my heart. Depression is no laughing matter and you are correct in watching the signs. If you see important signs like suicidal thoughts pressing in on you… please NEVER feel bad about seeking help. The thoughts that come to your mind are not correct. The ones that tell you – you are worthless and not worth living for – they are LIES! Do not listen – get a counselor to talk to - and follow what they say. I will tell you about my part in the depression story. I found ways both medically and naturally to help cure me from the effects of depression. I am not sharing this information with you lightly – PLEASE check with your doctor first before changing anything in your health care. What works for me: I found many things that work for me. I will chare them with you here. I highly recommend finding the unique combination of natural treatments that work for you – for the special you that you are – the one that no one else can be. You are unique, special and you have a purpose. You are searching ways to help yourself find a way to deal and better yet to LIVE fully and happily. Below is my advice… Here are the Natural Remedies that worked for me:
- Don't second guess yourself – remind yourself often of your healthy goals – and get people around you that support those wonderful ideas (support groups, networking meetings, church, sports teams, gym activities, coaches, etc…)
- Excersize: Find the excersize that makes you feel balanced… don't worry if you don't know now – keep trying things out until something clicks.
- Herbal supplements: I highly recommend Saint John's Wart and other natural remedies like this. They work – they can be a bit pricey but well worth the expense and time spent waiting for things to level out –don't quit them if at all possible – keeping steady in this area works the best.
- Talk to those you trust: find people that listen – that love you – that you trust. Do not spill your heart out to people that trample it. You can naturally find the most loving environment for you to be in if you have a chance – if you don't have luck in this area – please seek help from a professional that can point you in the right direction – they will get you a mentor (religious affiliations can help with this too).
- Hot Yoga: I started practicing yoga in a heated room, 3-4 times per week. I would recommend it 7 days a week if I were able. This helps with circulation and mood – big time!
- High Nutrient Smoothies/Diet: I use a high quality blender – every day at least once! I blend up good tasting smoothies that are packed with the best stuff for me and my condition. Lots of colorful veggies – cut with citrus fruits (it takes the "green" taste away and makes for a really nice smoothly.
- Massage: I go for a deep tissue - full body massage at least once a month. This really helps ease pressure and lets me love on me…
- Loving me: finding ways to love on myself is a task. In today's society it is easy to listen to tabloids and look at magazine covers as truth. If you look behind the scenes you would be shocked – nothing is as it seems – all that glitters is not gold! You have to look to those things that build you up and are real tangible things that you can get your hands on. Take a class, explore nature/music/art, try new colors, get a makeover, get a fitness coach, explore the internet for fitness plans you can do free…
- Relaxation Techniques: I practice prayer, meditation, relaxation breathing and many other techniques throughout the day – I found a state of peace that keeps me from revving up into that state of anxiety that never lets feel good. I prevent myself from ever getting into that zone – that has been a huge step for me. I shut myself down when negative thoughts come to mind. When negative thoughts come to mind I actually speak out loud to myself (when I can privacy wise) that whatever negative thought just came to mind – I tell call it for what it is –it's a lie – lies are not for me – I want truth – that's what I hone in on.
- Volunteer Work: Volunteering may sound like a strange place to find a natural remedy, but I found taking my mind off of me and my problems has really led to finding peace and staying in a relaxed and happy state.
- Music: I invest time and money in creating my own music and creating a music collection that uniquely represents me and what I need – this helps me to stay grounded to what makes me tick – this connects me to my inner needs – this helps me to sleep. This takes time to figure out – don't be hard on yourself but really, truly search out what makes you tick. It will be worth your time…
- Hot compress: I place a hot bag of rice or anther material - some type of heating herbal bag on any point of my body that makes me relax (neck, tummy, back, on my thighs – this really helps me unwind and comfort myself.
- Home: I spend time creating - in small and big ways – a place that is all for me! A place I love and feel comfortable with. If you don't own your own space, you can use little props around where you sleep – something – a piece of art, a stuffed animal – something to remind you that you have love in your life – even if it is a reminder that you are caring for yourself by reminding your self of things you love – that is an important step – don't lost track of who you are – and what you love. If you have… don't worry – you can find it again – step by step. Put your mind in a child-like state – touch things when shopping, feel textures, hold them to your face and look at yourself holding them (don't think negative when doing this – force yourself to say something positive – you can do it – even if it is: I don't prefer this color/texture but I am going to find one I do…)
- Quiet and Comfy Space: I head to a quiet space to relax and meditate and relax – I make sure my environment is calming and supports relaxation – I make the space mine – even if it is temprary.
